Moray and Maras Salt Mines

Tour Description

We depart promptly from your accommodation in Cusco towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a journey that allows us to enjoy Andean landscapes and agricultural fields.

🔹 Moray

Our first stop is the Moray archaeological complex, about 45 minutes from the main road. Here you will see the famous circular Inca terraces, considered a true ancient agricultural laboratory: the Incas designed them to create different climates and test the cultivation of plants under varying conditions, achieving up to a 5°C temperature difference between the highest and lowest levels. You will have time to explore the site, learn about its history, and take photographs.

🔹 Maras Salt Mines

We continue to the Maras Salt Mines, just 15 minutes from Moray. These are more than 5,000 salt ponds carved into the mountainside, a tradition that has remained unchanged since pre-Incan times: saltwater springs from an underground source, flows through the ponds, and evaporates in the sun, leaving behind crystallized salt. You can witness the artisanal extraction process, admire the unique color of the ponds, and purchase pink Maras salt as a souvenir.

🔹 Return to Cusco

We make a brief stop in the town of Maras to rest before beginning our return journey along a scenic route. If you wish, we can add an optional lunch stop in Urubamba (for private groups). We conclude the tour with drop-off at Plaza Regocijo, just 2 minutes from Cusco's Plaza de Armas, at 3:30 p.m.


Important Information

- Entrance Fees: Admission to Moray is included in the Cusco Tourist Ticket; Entrance to the Salt Mines is paid directly on site.

- Altitude: Moray is located at 3,500 meters above sea level, and the Salt Mines at 3,380 meters above sea level.

- Recommendations: Wear comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, bring water, a light jacket, and cash for purchases or small payments.
